Growing like a weed...

I can't believe how big my baby is getting!
He is 34 days old. I am shocked.
He has already grown out of his newborn clothes. It makes me kind of sad that he isn't tiny anymore.
But we went to his 1 month check up yesterday. Everything looks great!
They gave him his HepB vaccine. Lets just say he was not very happy. Poor guy.

Weight: 10lbs 9 oz
Height: 22 inches long

And his head is 15 inches around.
My kid has a big ol' noggin
:)

Week 3

Everything is still going great :)
Desmond finally got back up to his birth weight last week after going to weight checks every other day.
He definitely feels heavier!

And he is getting cuter and cuter every day.
Being a mom has definitely been the most rewarding experience of my life.
I have never loved someone so much.

I will post pictures next time.
Just thought I would do a little update :)

Sneak Peek at Professional Pictures

One of my family friends from my moms ward did Desmonds newborn pictures today.
They turned out fantastic and I cannot wait to see the edited ones.
She was nice enough to send me some of the unedited ones that way I could show Rodney tonight since he had to work.
Here they are :)

The blessing outfit my mom made him :)

Getting into the swing of things

This past week has definitely been an adventure.
I have never gone with this little sleep before and still stayed productive.
Thankfully, Rodney let me sleep all night last night so I am feeling really good today
:)
Although, I woke up at 7 am a little freaked out because I hadn't gotten up all night but Rodney had it all taken care of.
I am so grateful.

One Week Old

After bathtime. I LOVE this face.

Happy boy.

My two favorite boys.

He did not like this idea at all.

Our First Week

We had our first doctor appointment today.
Dr. Haug is a really nice doctor and explains stuff really well.
Which is awesome because I have never had a baby before and I am partially clueless on what is going on.
haha.
He said everything with Desmond looks great. He is a perfect baby. Of course :)
Although, since he lost 10% of his body weight since leaving the hospital, I have to come back friday to get him weighed. He doesn't think it will be a problem since my mature milk just came in so Desmond hasn't really had a chance to gain weight off of it.

He is doing so great.

More pictures :)

my first picture with him. i look so tired.

little feet

proud papa

i dont think i have seen rodney this happy before

flowers from rodney. they are beautiful.

first time in his carseat. he didn't like it that much.

this was right after I got my epidural. explains why I look so relaxed :)

Bundle of joy...

I am awful at updating. Especially at the time I should be sharing news with the world.
Rodney and I welcomed our beautiful son, Desmond Okello Ojuka into this world last wednesday,
November 24th. Seeing as the next day was Thanksgiving, we had so much to be thankful for!

We had gone to my weekly doctor appointment that morning. After getting checked, my doctor said that my body was more than ready to go into labor and since I was 39 weeks along, baby was perfectly able to come out. She asked if we would like to go over to the hospital and get things going and have him that day. So we did :)

Everything got started around 11 am, Dr. Roles broke my water about 12:15 pm, I got my epidural around 1:30 and was stuck in bed for another 8 hours.
Time went by real fast though.
Almost too fast.

Desmond Okello Ojuka was born at 9:46 pm
Weighing in at 8 lbs 9 oz
21 inches long

and screaming like a champ :)

He is such a happy baby. Rarely cries unless he needs something. We are still getting adjusted to being new parents but we love him so so much.

More to come...

37 ish weeks

We are coming into the home stretch
Technically we are full term but I really want to wait until im 39 ish weeks to deliver.
He is the decider here.
Not me.
:)

Although, I have been contracting and having pains.
Nothing worth timing so lets not hold our breath.

Rodney and I are getting very excited and making sure everything is ready.
Went and spent 200 dollars on frozen/non perishable groceries just so the pantry is
stocked up and ready.
Installed carseat.
Packed hospital bags.
There are a few things i still need to throw in but i'm going to wait until after
my baby shower to get them.

Speaking of baby shower,
it is this Sunday, November 14th.
You all are invited :)

I may just give birth right then and there :)

Its so close.

Pretty sure I have already mentioned how much I miss utah right now.
I havent spent a fall in Kansas since I was in high school.
Utah became my home.

Anywho, what I am really missing right now is Rodneys family.
Especially his mom, Grace.
She is such a great lady and I look up to her for so many reasons.
I know I will learn many great lessons from my own mom about being a mother,
but I hope I can learn lessons from Grace as well because she is the
other grandmother of my son.

I hope Rodneys family can come out to visit after Desmond is born.
Or that we can go out there as soon as the roads are clear enough to drive through the mountains.
its all up in the air.
we will see :)

he just needs to get here first :)

I really don't know what is up with my lack of posting.
Terrible, I know.

And probably because I don't have anything going on worth reading.
poop.

Well let's see.
I am about to pop this baby out.
5 more weeks.
And im looking fabulous.

Not too shabby I must say.

If you know me at all, you know I am a real big exagerator...did i spell that right? probably not. im too lazy to google. anywho.
I seriously thought that at this point of my pregnancy, I was going to look like kate plus 8.
and then some.

I have only gained 13 ish pounds.
I can sometimes see my toes.
and my pre pregnancy jeans still fit with a little rubber band thingie on the button.

although, seeing as my boss just filled up a huge candy jar with halloween treats, it might not stay that way.

oh! and my bestie bought us the travel system for the baby :)
it was almost like christmas. almost.
I was in the shower when the fedex man rang the doorbell. I skipped the conditioner, i couldn't wait :)

I love it so much.
I cant believe that there is gonna be a baby in there soon. wow..
makes it feel more real.

On a side note.
I miss being blonde.

this is me now.

My friend said i look jewish. Not sure what the means but she said it is a compliment.
haha.

and i miss utah.
real bad.

i am neglectful

of my blog that is.

I dont know if i just feel too busy to update.
or if i am actually too busy to update.

Either way, I havent updated.
Sorry.

Everything is good with baby. He loves to play in my rib cage.
I will post a picture tomorrow after the Dr. appointment with more updates :)

apparently right now, image uploads are disabled. atleast that is what it says on my page.

anywho. not much else going on.
my amazing friend kate bought us a carseat and stroller which should be arriving in 2 days.
i am so excited to put it together.

AND
my baby shower is on the 7th.
I am very excited to see all my friends because once desmond comes, we probably wont be traveling much until winter is over.

I am just ready to have him here...

32 weeks...8 to go!

Rodney and I went to my doctor appointment today
Now is when we will start going every two weeks.
Then in November it is every week.

I cant believe it is so soon.

I catch myself staring at rodney like a creepy stalker just wondering what features
Desmond will have of his.
I hope he has his nose. And a mixture of our eyes.
plus, this kid is bound to have a full set of lips regardless. :)

His kicks are getting stronger and I can see them better.
Sometimes my stomach shakes like crazy and i really wonder what moves he is doing in there.

im gettin there :)

so far i have only gained 9 pounds so that is good
AND
my doctor took my hemoglobin a1c last time i was there and the results were perfect.
thank goodness for healthy mom and baby :)

but, i did get the flu shot.
now i cant move my left arm.
boo :(

bein crafty :)

I finally got off my butt and started to work on stuff for Desmonds room.
here is the fabric i chose out :)

My good friend sabrina had given me a little dresser to use for the baby.
I decided to repaint it the same green as in the fabric
(which i was able to find in spray paint. i call it a miracle.)
im so lazy.
and i recovered the drawers in the stripes and polka dots.

i looove it.
Now, the crib will be painted that maroonish color and the two drawers will be covered in the argyle.
cute.
and my granda made a quilt for him out of all the fabric.
its so cute and i love it so much.
she has made all of the grandchildren quilts. every stitch handmade.
Desmond may be the last great grandchild to get a quilt so i will make sure he cherishes it forever.

oh and on a lighter note...
i found this!

ha!

31 weeks

I cant believe we are already into the "30's"
ahhhh
and i'm actually updating on the exact week mark.

im turning into a blogaholic.
dont judge.

anywho.
weekly survey? yes

How far along:
31 Weeks! Only 9 weeks to go!
Weight gain:
still probably around 4 lbs. i have an appt on october 6th...thats when ill know for sure
Stretch Marks:
 none more this week
Maternity Clothes:
all my pants are maternity. i can still get by with my regular shirts/tank tops. and im stealing rodneys shirts :)
Sleep:
Alright. Im getting it! Just wake up to pee early in the AM & my back feels sore when I wake.
Best moments this week:
I'm starting to feel Desmond move more. AND i can see him roll around in my stomach!
Food cravings:
None really, just want LOTS of food in general.
Gender:
A precious baby boy named Desmond!
Belly button in/out:
Its holding as a innie.Probably gonna be a flattie sometime soon.
Movement:
Lots and lots! Hes a wild man.
Labor Signs:
None, just starting to feel Braxton Hicks. But no real labor signs.
What I miss:
Going from sit to stand with out having to pee!
Looking forward too:
 Meeting my baby boy!
Weekly wisdom:
One day at a time.
Milestone: Each week Desmond stays cooking is a blessing and a milestone :)

& the websites say,
This week, your baby measures over 16 inches long. He weighs about 3.3 pounds (try carrying four navel oranges) and is heading into a growth spurt. He can turn his head from side to side, and his arms, legs, and body are beginning to plump out as needed fat accumulates underneath his skin. He's probably moving a lot, too, so you may have trouble sleeping because your baby's kicks and somersaults keep you up. Take comfort: All this moving is a sign that your baby is active and healthy."

30 weeks...10 to go

Technically I think this is where I can start counting back :)
so, 10 weeks left!

Rodney is getting more and more excited.
I'm getting anxious.

I found a cute little survey on someone elses blog.
Its a good generalized way to tell you how everything is going
:)

How far along:
 30 weeks! 10 to go
Weight gain:
4 lbs. be jealous :) just kidding...at the beginning I lost a bit of weight and have gained it all back. so technically speaking, about 15 pounds. but 4 pounds pre pregnancy.
Stretch Marks:
some. I began with some anyway, so im not heart broken.
Maternity Clothes:
Yes. Everything but pajamas and dresses. I still fit into some regular shirts :)
Sleep:
Starting to wake up more to pee. I hate it because if the sun is already up then I cant fall back asleep.
Best moments this week:
hitting the 30 week mark :)
Food cravings:
None really, just want LOTS of food in general.
Gender:
A precious baby boy named Desmond!
Belly button in/out:
still an innie. almost to the flat stage though
Movement:
Lots and lots! Although hes had a few sleepy days this week!
Labor Signs:
None =] just lots of cramps.
What I miss:
bending over to pick things up.
Looking forward too:
 Meeting my baby boy!
Weekly wisdom:
One day at a time.
Milestone:
ummmm none this week so far :)

Now, what is baby up to?

Baby's now the size of a squash! As baby's skin smoothes out, his brain just keeps getting more wrinkled. All those grooves and indentations increase surface area, meaning more room for that oh-so-essential brain tissue. He's also adding some brawn -- his grip is now strong enough to grasp a finger.

cute.

In other news...I am really very excited for Halloween.
 I love fall.
Always have. Always will.
Still trying to figure out what I'm going to be. hmmmmm.

AND THEN...November...
I need to figure out when I'm going to start maternity leave.
I want to work up until my doctor says its okay, or whenever I feel like killing myself because that seems like a better option than sitting here for 8 hours straight.
oh wait, thats now. :(
ha.
Ever have a broken rib? Me either. I would probably take that right now.
Rib expansion kills.
All my life, my mom has always said I was "cursed" with a barrel ribcage.
Right now, I'm thankful.
I can imagine being in a whole lot more pain, a whole lot sooner if I was built little.
Thanks mom :)
no really...i mean it.

thats all kids. I'll be posting a picture of my tummy tomorrow. I'm in my work uniform right now
and i feel real stupid for taking every picture in the same outfit.

29 weeks...11 to go!

Weekly update :)

"Baby’s energy is surging, thanks to the formation of white fat deposits beneath the skin. Baby is also settling into sleep and waking cycles, though - as you’ve also probably noticed -- they don’t necessarily coincide with your own. This month, all five senses are finally functional, and the brain and nervous system are going through major developments."

"Your baby now weighs about 2 1/2 pounds (like a butternut squash) and is a tad over 15 inches long from head to heel. His muscles and lungs are continuing to mature, and his head is growing bigger to make room for his developing brain. To meet his increasing nutritional demands, you'll need plenty of protein, vitamins C, folic acid, and iron. And because his bones are soaking up lots of calcium, be sure to drink your milk (or find another good source of calcium, such as cheese, yogurt, or enriched orange juice). This trimester, about 250 milligrams of calcium are deposited in your baby's hardening skeleton each day."

i am POSITIVE that he is so much cuter than that. :)

I started to decorate the nursery this weekend. Turns out, i had high expectations for my one can of spray paint. Looks like I will be needing about 6 more cans for the crib. ha.

I'll probably be doing another post later or tomorrow. None of the pictures I'm wanting to upload are working.

In other news, everything is great here! Desmond moves around like a crazy person all day. I love feeling his kicks. Just lets me know that he is doing okay :) Last weeks doctor appointment went great. Got to hear the heart beat. It makes my heart melt. Everything is measuring good too!
My doctor isn't too concerned that I havent gained any weight so far because I was a little bit over weight to begin with. As long as I have my diabetes under control and take my prenatals every day, everything will be fine.
I can definitely tell that Rodney is very excited to be a dad. I think he is even more excited that we are having a son. They get to do boy stuff together. Whatever that means :)

That is about it for now. Ill keep tryin for the pictures and update later.
